Utah County Justice Court

Utah County DUI Lawyer | Utah County Justice Court DUI Defense

Utah County Justice Court hears DUI cases from unincorporated Utah County, Cedar Hills, and Vineyard. The courthouse is at 151 South University Avenue, Suite 3300, in Provo, which is why a notice can list Provo when the stop was somewhere else. If your notice prints a different address, use the notice. Dallin Littlefield defends cases filed in this court.

County court, Provo address

The building is in Provo. The cases are not Orem's.

Utah County Justice Court sits at 151 South University Avenue, Suite 3300, Provo, UT 84601. It is the county justice court for parts of Utah County that do not run a municipal justice court. Cedar Hills and Vineyard file here. So does unincorporated county, the territory outside any city limit. If your notice prints a different address, use the notice.

Orem city cases do not. Those go to Orem Justice Court at 95 East Center Street. Lehi files in Lehi Justice Court at 153 North 100 East. Highland and Alpine have municipal justice courts of their own. If you live in Cedar Hills and were stopped in Highland, or the other way around, the city line can put you in a different court. The caption on the citation is the check.

Most first-offense DUIs in Utah are Class B misdemeanors handled in justice court. This court hears those Class B and Class C cases for the territory it covers. A DUI charged more seriously, because of a prior offense, an injury, or a child in the car, is filed in district court instead. Dallin starts with the court named on the paper, then the stop and the testing.

Cedar Hills and Vineyard

No city justice court of their own

Those two cities file in Utah County Justice Court. A notice that lists 151 South University Avenue, Suite 3300, can be a Vineyard or Cedar Hills case, even if you have never been to that building. If the notice prints a different address, use the notice.

Neighbors with their own courts

Orem, Lehi, Highland, Alpine

A case from one of those cities is not this docket. If the citation names their justice court, follow that name. Do not use the fact that you also drive through Orem.

First appearance

Arraignment opens the county file. It does not finish it.

Match the notice to the Provo address before you plan the morning.

  1. Make sure you are on the county calendar

Your date should name Utah County Justice Court, 151 South University Avenue, Suite 3300, in Provo. An Orem Justice Court date is a different calendar, at 95 East Center Street in Orem. If the notice prints a different address, use the notice.

  2. The charge, your rights, and a plea

The court tells you the accusation and advises you of your rights, including the right to a lawyer. People often plead not guilty at that setting, or ask for a continuance to hire counsel, rather than trying to resolve the case on the spot.

  3. Video, when the court sets it that way

Most hearings at Utah County Justice Court are held virtually or hybrid. Many people in Vineyard or Cedar Hills can attend online instead of driving to Provo in the middle of a workday. The court can still require you in person. Use the address on your notice.

Getting there

University Avenue is the building. It is not always where you have to be.

Most hearings at this court are held virtually or hybrid. That is why many clients keep a workday and join from a phone or a laptop. Do not skip a date because you assumed it was remote, and do not drive to Provo if the notice gives you a video link. If the notice prints a different address, use the notice. Check the paper, then confirm it with counsel.

Littlefield Legal consults by phone or video from Saratoga Springs. You do not need to come to an office to talk through a county-court DUI. Utah's license process also moves on its own short timeline, apart from this criminal case. Dallin flags what in your paperwork relates to that clock.
