Nephi DUI Lawyer | Nephi and Juab County Justice Court DUI Defense

Nephi has two justice courts, and both publish 160 North Main Street. Nephi Justice Court hears Nephi City cases. The city says that court is in session every Monday, excluding holidays. Juab County Justice Court hears Eureka, Mona, and Levan, and the rest of the county docket. Dallin Littlefield defends DUI cases in both. The caption decides which clerk has the file.

One street, two captions

Nephi City and Juab County share a published address. They do not share a calendar.

Nephi City says its justice court is at 160 North Main Street, and it tells people to appear there in person to pay. The city also says court is held every Monday, excluding holidays, and that you call to schedule a date. A DUI charged inside Nephi City, with Nephi Justice Court on the citation, is that Monday calendar. The footer address on the city website, 21 East 100 North, is the city office line. The city lists 42 East 100 North as a mailing address for fine payments. Neither of those is the in-person address the city gives for the justice court.

Juab County Justice Court lists the same 160 North Main Street. It is the county court. Eureka, Mona, and Levan do not run municipal justice courts of their own, and their cases are filed here. The county courthouse is in Nephi because Nephi is the county seat. That does not make a Nephi City charge a county case. The county says session days vary. Do not borrow the city's Monday and drive in from Eureka on that assumption.

The county also says that, unless it instructs otherwise, you can appear in person at the courthouse, including to use a laptop there, or you can appear virtually on Webex. Most hearings at Nephi Justice Court are held virtually or hybrid, and most hearings at Juab County Justice Court are held virtually or hybrid. The notice for your date still picks the format. A Payson or Santaquin caption, north on I-15, is a Utah County court. A Millard County caption, south toward Fillmore, is a different county again.

Most first-offense DUIs in Utah are Class B misdemeanors handled in justice court. Both of these Nephi courts hear that level of case. A DUI filed as a more serious offense, including where there is a prior DUI, an injury, or a child in the car, goes to district court. Dallin will not tell you which calendar to plan around until he has seen the charging document.

Nephi Justice Court

Nephi City, Mondays

The municipal court for a stop the caption places in Nephi City. The city posts court every Monday, excluding holidays, and says to call to get on the calendar. In-person business is at 160 North Main.

Juab County Justice Court

Eureka, Mona, and Levan

The county court, also listed at 160 North Main. Session days vary. The county offers Webex unless it tells you to come in. A Nephi City caption is a different file in the same published building.

Arraignment on Main Street

Whichever court is named, the first setting does the same job.

It states the charge and your rights. It is not the end of the case.

  1. Read the court name before you use the street

160 North Main is the address both courts publish. Only one of them has your case. Nephi Justice Court is the city file. Juab County Justice Court is the county file, including Eureka, Mona, and Levan. Check the caption the night before, not from the curb on Main.

  2. The charge is stated and your rights are explained

Arraignment is where the court tells you what you are accused of and advises you of the right to counsel. Many people plead not guilty or ask for time to hire a lawyer. It is a poor moment to guess at a resolution because you want the morning to be over.

  3. Ask whether Main Street is required that day

Most hearings at both courts are held virtually or hybrid. The county specifically points people to Webex unless it instructs otherwise, and it says you can use a laptop at the courthouse if you appear in person. The city still posts Monday court. Each notice sets its own format.

Eureka, Mona, and the drive

A county case does not have to mean a Monday trip down I-15.

Most hearings at both courts are held virtually or hybrid. For someone in Eureka, on US-6, or in Mona or Levan along I-15, that is often the difference between a video login and a drive into Nephi. Treat a video hearing as court: on time, somewhere you can speak, citation in hand. If the notice says 160 North Main, that is the trip. The city's Monday posting and the county's varying session days are general calendars. Your date can be a special setting.

The consult is by phone or video. You can call from Nephi, Eureka, Mona, or Levan without coming to the Saratoga Springs base. Utah's license process runs on a separate short timeline from the criminal case. Dallin will tell you what to pull out of the paperwork you already have.

How a defense is built for either court on Nephi's Main Street is on the DUI practice page. If you would rather write than call, use the contact page.
