Young Street, up the canyon

One justice court for Morgan County, posted for Tuesday at 4:00.

Morgan County Justice Court publishes its address as 48 West Young Street, Morgan. Morgan City is the county seat, and this is the justice court for the county. A stop inside Morgan City and a stop elsewhere in Morgan County can both land here when the caption names this court. There is not a second municipal justice court in the county to hunt for.

The county says court is held each Tuesday, except the fifth Tuesday and holidays, at 4:00 p.m. It asks people to check in in Room 4 between 2:45 and 3:45 p.m., and to call during office hours to be added to the calendar. That is the posted in-person session. Most hearings at this court are held virtually or hybrid, so the Tuesday line is the court's calendar, not a promise that your date is in Room 4. Read the notice before you leave work early for the drive back up Weber Canyon.

I-84 carries a lot of these cases, between the Wasatch Front and the county. People who live in Morgan often work in Ogden or farther down the valley. A Summit County caption is a different court. Park City, Coalville, and Henefer are on the Summit County side of the ridge, in Summit County Justice Court. The charging paper, not the canyon you drove, is what picks the building.

Most first-offense DUIs in Utah are Class B misdemeanors handled in justice court. Morgan County Justice Court is where those cases are heard for this county. A DUI charged more seriously, including where there is a prior offense, an injury, or a child in the vehicle, can be filed in district court instead. District court also sits in Morgan. It is a different docket. Dallin sorts that from the charging document before he tells you to plan around Room 4.

Tuesday at 4:00

Room 4, if the notice says to come in

The county posts check-in in Room 4 between 2:45 and 3:45 p.m. for that Tuesday session, except the fifth Tuesday and holidays. Your notice can still put you on a video link.

What this page is not

A prediction of the result

Nothing here promises a dismissal, a reduction, or a particular sentence. The stop, the testing, and the charge that was filed are what the case turns on.

Arraignment on Young Street

The first date is for the charge and your rights.

It is an advisement, not a verdict.

  1. Bring the paper that names the court

Morgan County Justice Court should be on it, with 48 West Young Street, if this is your court. A Summit County caption, or a district-court caption, is a different calendar. Call to be added during the court's office hours if the county has told you to do that.

  2. Expect the charge to be stated, and your rights explained

The court tells you what you are charged with and advises you of your rights, including the right to a lawyer. Pleading not guilty, or asking for time to get counsel, is a normal way to start. The rest of the case should not be decided in the first few minutes.

  3. Check whether Tuesday in Room 4 is your date

Most hearings at Morgan County Justice Court are held virtually or hybrid. The county still posts an in-person session on Tuesdays at 4:00 p.m., with check-in in Room 4. Many people who work in Ogden can attend online. The notice says which one you have.

Ogden, I-84, and 4:00 p.m.

A 4:00 setting is a hard time to be back up the canyon.

Most hearings at this court are held virtually or hybrid. For a lot of people who live in Morgan and work in Ogden, that is the difference between leaving a shift early for I-84 and joining from a quiet room. Treat the link like a courtroom. Be on time. Have the citation. If the notice says Room 4, the county's posted check-in is 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. for the 4:00 session. The fifth Tuesday is an exception the county already carves out. Your paper can carve out more.

Utah's license process runs on its own short timeline, separate from this criminal case. On the free consult, Dallin flags what in your paperwork relates to that, instead of waiting for arraignment to be the first time anyone mentions it. You do not need every document in order before you call, and you do not drive to Saratoga Springs for that conversation.
